--I thought I might as well earn this since I would be in the area. It should make traveling much more convenient.

Is anyone else in Violet City? Vilof, I didn't see you on the road, so you must still be around, correct? And Misaki, did you make it out of Cherry Grove by any chance?

[He bows back to her, not to be polite but because it was just so cute~!]

It's nice to meet you too, Bellossom~. You too, Asuma. [Pidgey cooed while Poochy eyed the other pokemon with distrust. Rin doesn't mind either of his pokemon and turns to face the Violet City gym.]

What's Falkner's deal? He goes on about his father's precious pokemon and then he just lets them out to fight!

Bell, Bellossom~

[She moves closer to the Mareep, half-hiding behind its leg. The Mareep nudges her comfortingly with her head.]

Forgive her. Reika is a bit shy, so she tends to stay close to Sheep-san there.

As for Falkner, it seems his father is an important figure in his life. Although I am not sure why he of all people chooses to keep them in their Pokéballs except during battle...

[Rin kneels down to the pokemon's level.]

It's okay. I bet there's still a lot she feel confident about. Not like Poochy here. [He puts a hand on Poochy's head which earns him a long low growl. He stands back up.]

She still doesn't like me. At all. I don't get it though. I haven't mistreated her.

...That's a good point. I'd let them hang around me all the time, if I had my father's pokemon -- if we had pokemon where I lived -- not that we don't have creatures that aren't anything like poke -- [He tries hard to dig himself out of this hole he's made for himself...]

-- N-Nevermind.

[...That was an interesting cover attempt.]

What are the creatures in your world like, if you don't mind me asking? I have yet to come across any natural animal with the intelligence and power that the Pokémon here have.

[He's sorry (and he mutters an apology at the end of his sentence). B-But he only wanted to mention his father! Not the other stuff. He's starting to enjoy life without the other stuff.]

J-Just know that my dad had something like cat sith pokemon and it belongs to me now and I take very good care of him. ...His name's Blackie.

[He'll drop it, then.]

[He crouches down to the Poochyena's level, holding out his hand to it. He keeps his hand open and nonthreatening, as though asking Poochy for permission to come nearer.]

Yeah. ...She doesn't seem to like me much. But I don't have a single problem with my other pals.

[Poochy side-glances Asuma but otherwise doesn't make a negative motion. She even steps a little closer to him.]

Careful... She might bite you too.

It's fine. If she does anything, I'll take responsibility for it.

[He attempts to pet her lightly on the head, but he'll stop immediately if she seems uncomfortable or otherwise agitated.]

[Rin watches as Asuma steps closer to Poochy, leaning in close to see if Asuma might have some secret talent with poochyena. Poochy lets Asuma pet her for a moment before she withdraws and takes shelter beside Rin.]

I've never seen her do that before...

Huh... Really?

[He lets his hand drop when she moves back, but he doesn't look particularly miffed. Instead, he looks to Rin again.]

Interesting... Pokémon all have such different personalities, it's hard to know how one in particular will react.

[Poochy's moved behind Rin now, hoping to be out of Asuma's sight completely.]

I hope she's not afraid of you... They act like people sometimes. Do you think she dislikes me that much?

I may have been too forward. Ah, well.

How long have you had her? Was she always like that?

Nah, you were fine. You were just taken off guard, right Poochy?

[Poochy silently agrees but otherwise has become all but invisible.]

She's been like that since I met her... she was less friendly before.

My apologies, Poochy.

[He sounds sincere as he addresses the now hiding Poochyena.]

Less friendly? So she's gotten a little better since?

She has! Before she was all growls and constant biting, but nowadays she's less about biting and more like cackling.

[Rin appreciates how delicately Asuma's treating the situation with Poochy.]

That is good to hear. It seems your relationship with her has been improving at least a little over time... Hopefully it will continue that way.

[His response to the second part is a bit teasing.]

Don't get me wrong -- it's just, you know -- it's not everyday you get to meet someone you speak to on the phone!
