Eighth Flower

[Today, Asuma looks uncharacteristically serious. By his sides are two new Pokémon - a Swablu and a Ivysaur. The two seem to be taking comfort in one another's presence for now.]

...It seems that many people have been disappearing as of late. I have two more to report.

The first is a young boy who was missing an arm. His name was Tetsu.

[Or at least, that's what he information on the Ivysaur indicated.]

The other was a quiet boy with white hair who worked at the Breeding Centre. Mytho.

[The Swablu gives an unhappy cry at the mention of this, prompting Asuma to give her a few comforting pets.]

...I will be taking care of these two myself. I just wanted to let others know in case they were wondering what happened.

I will be fine. I think it was probably more surprising than anything else.

[ Why does that name sound very familiar? She's sure she's heard it before, and almost so sure she's spoken to the person himself, but after everything that had happened since then, her memory's become a little foggy.

And then suddenly it hits her. ]

M-Mytho-san? The boy who couldn't feel any emotions? Where did he disappear too?!

Most likely.

Although I have to wonder why it has become so prevalent...

...Home, most likely. Or wherever it was he lived before he came here.

I don't know... [[sighs deeply]] It's a little worrying, really...

Yes... And more worrying, it's hard to say if it's for better or worse.

Yeah... I definitely do. There's something really not right about this whole thing.

I wonder what could have triggered it? Assuming of course that there was something that caused this rash of disappearances rather than it being simple coincidence.

I wish I knew... or even had a clue, but there never really seems to be any rhyme or reason to this stuff. [A quiet sigh.] Dammit, what the hell's going on...?

For now, I'll be keeping an eye on reported disappearances. It's not the most reliable method, but I'd like to have at least an estimate of how many have left us.

Yeah, sounds good. I think I'm gonna do the same, too.

[A long sigh.]

I never thought it would come to this. It's a little depressing, to be honest.

I thought about it a few times, but it never seemed like it would be this sudden. Whatever it actually is... [Wincing a bit. He really hates thinking about this.]

Yes. If anything, I would have expected people to leave gradually. Not like this.

[He puts a hand to his chin in thought.]

...I'm beginning to wonder if it wouldn't be appropriate to keep a physical record, somehow.

Do you think that's even possible?

If it were something simple, maybe. Like some sort of marker for people who pass through this world to leave a name on.

Huh... yeah, I guess that would work if there's some place everyone definitely went or something.

Hmmm...

[After a moment of thought...]

...Not everyone goes there, but wouldn't you say that New Bark Town fits that criteria best? It's small, so if there were some sort of monument, it would be hard to miss.

I guess... it would depend if that person wanted to go home or not, wouldn't it...?

That'd probably work. A lot of people do start there, at least. [A small thought.] I think everyone passes through Violet at least once, too.

Right. There are some who may have wanted to go home, but there could also have been just as many who had their own reasons for wanting to stay.

...I think I may look into it. There is probably no way to record everyone who has been here so far, but if we could at least begin to...

Well, I for one would like that much to be left as a reminder.

I won't even try to argue with that. We're pretty hard-pressed for it these days.

Which is why I thought I would start this project now. I'll have to start gathering information on the earlier routes - and of course, all of the people who are and once were here.

That part will probably be the trickiest. I'll have to ask others to give me the names of people they know to have left. It's likely I won't be able to get all of them even then, but...

It's be tough, I bet. There's probably people who are gone now that nobody here actually knows at all.

Right. Due to the continued disappearances, it's very possible that even highly connected people would be lost to obscurity as they and all of their friends left.

However, as long as I can at least start this much... I can only hope we could avoid that in the future.

I guess the worst that can happen is it doesn't work out. It wouldn't be the biggest loss...

The only loss I would take is my paycheck. But I don't really mind.
