Fourth Flower

Looks like we've finally made it! It's been a long trip, but my Pokémon and I have arrived safely in Goldenrod. I regret not being able to take it at a slower pace, but hopefully the time we spend here will make up for it.

[He pauses here, looking thoughtful.]

I've been... curious, to say the least. In the time I've spent here, I've heard of a few different worlds, and they all seem to have differing views on the subject of magic. So now, I would like to bring the question to all of Johto - what is magic like in your world? If it doesn't exist, what is it supposedly like? My own world relies on magic, so I can't help but wonder.

[Later; Action at the Breeding Centre]

[Asuma arrives, Reika the Gloom following him as always. He's mostly just checking the place out for now, but he'll probably make his way to the front desk at some point. Bother? Help the guy out? It's up to you!]

Y'know... sleazy. Dark.

Not the sparkly, wand-wavey kind.

Dark magic...?

[His voice becomes deadly serious.]

What was this magic used for?
foolishwren: My therapist: what kind of car (Me: I kind of wanna get hit by a car)

Nothing good.

[... And she's not sure she feels like going into the gory details.]

[He gives a sigh.]

...I wish I could say magic were always used for good, but I don't think that's the case in any world that has it.

Yeah.

... I mean... it's not impossible to do good with it... sometimes y'sorta have to, just to counteract all the bad stuff... but even then, it's not too reliable.

[She'd AAAAAALMOST saved the world once by evoking the power of ancient talismans. ... But that fucked up so in the end it fell to a scared, mild-mannered writer with a shotgun to do the job.]

Perhaps in your world. It's rather reliable in my world. That's part of why its use will never die out; we need it for a variety of things.

Yeah.

Where I come from... that's not how it is.

[Not to mention even the 'good' magic often came at a terrible cost...]

But that doesn't mean it should.

Maybe if more people thought that way, it wouldn't.

If only they did... I think I would much prefer it.

But I suppose there's no use pining for the impossible.
