Fourth Flower

Looks like we've finally made it! It's been a long trip, but my Pokémon and I have arrived safely in Goldenrod. I regret not being able to take it at a slower pace, but hopefully the time we spend here will make up for it.

[He pauses here, looking thoughtful.]

I've been... curious, to say the least. In the time I've spent here, I've heard of a few different worlds, and they all seem to have differing views on the subject of magic. So now, I would like to bring the question to all of Johto - what is magic like in your world? If it doesn't exist, what is it supposedly like? My own world relies on magic, so I can't help but wonder.

[Later; Action at the Breeding Centre]

[Asuma arrives, Reika the Gloom following him as always. He's mostly just checking the place out for now, but he'll probably make his way to the front desk at some point. Bother? Help the guy out? It's up to you!]

[Will emerge from the back after being called out by the Scyther hanging out by the counter.]

Hm? What's up Chie-- [Oh! Notices Asuma there.] Oh, hey. Are you looking for someone?

Glad to hear you made it! The cave wasn't any trouble, I hope?

Congratulations on reaching your destination, Asuma. How was your travel, beyond quick paced?

And magic? [[A small pause in thought.]]

Well, magic both does and doesn't exist in my world...

The magic that does exist is based on illusions. Using clever tricks to convince your audience that they're seeing the impossible, even though it is completely within achieving as long as you know how to perform the feat. Underhanded when used to con people, but...it can be absolutely charming otherwise.

The magic that doesn't exist makes its home in myths, legends, stories and fairy tales. Able to conjure elements out of seemingly nothing, such as grand pillars of fire or intimidating waves of water. Able to summon creatures of all sorts, from wolves to birds to horrifying imps or the living dead. Putting great dragons to sleep, waking fair maidens from eternal slumber, levitating the un-levitable...there is no end to what fictional magic is able to do.

action; habit? 8D

Sort of. I heard the Centre was looking for some hired hands, so I thought I'd come and see if there were any positions still open.

Magic isn't used much, if at all, in my world. There are magicians, but their magic is made of tricks, not the kind of magic you are probably referring to.

Not particularly. In fact, I even managed to catch something new.

[He takes a Pokéball from his belt and releases a Pokémon, before pointing the camera at it. A Sandshrew is by his feet, blinking up at the 'Gear.]

Shrew?

Not sure what to call it yet, though.

Thank you, Rose. It was pleasant, aside from the rush.

...Curious. In my world, both illusions with sleight of hand and real magic exist. Of course, the former is a poor substitute for the latter, but it's entertaining to perform. Though I wouldn't be surprised if there were those who used it for less... noble things.

[identity profile] youngforhisage.livejournal.com 2011-08-05 06:04 am (UTC)(link)
It seems magic is even rarer than I thought. I'm assuming you mean the sort that relies on sleight of hand and illusions, correct?
shiromadoushi: (uwaaaa~!)

Heeeeh, cute! [[for once, Bakura's idea of cute is more or less on par with most peoples! How strange~]]

Maybe Seitaad? [[since it's too cute to be a Sarlacc~]]

action; I GUESS. I'm usually good about that though |D

[He laughs a little, nodding.] You'd wanna talk to Souji, then. He's been the one handling all that stuff, but uh... I think he stepped out for a bit. You can hang here in the meantime if you want - he should be back soon.

[personal profile] miniworth 2011-08-05 09:30 pm (UTC)(link)
That's correct. They're often referred to as tricks--magic tricks.

I'm sure there are worlds with different powers, even if they don't necessarily call it magic.

Video;

[identity profile] usedtherapy.livejournal.com 2011-08-05 10:06 pm (UTC)(link)
That's good to hear.

And yes, unfortunately it is used as such where I come from. Though...both exist in your world? I know well what illusions are like, but...would be interested in hearing about the latter from someone who's experienced it first hand.

If, provided, you have the time of course.

[identity profile] youngforhisage.livejournal.com 2011-08-06 06:27 am (UTC)(link)
Seitaad? What would that be?

action; Then just a simple mistake, I suppose!

[identity profile] youngforhisage.livejournal.com 2011-08-06 06:44 am (UTC)(link)
If that's alright with you, I think I will take you up on that.

Still, I'm impressed - this place is obviously well maintained. Just how many people work here?

video.

[identity profile] youngforhisage.livejournal.com 2011-08-06 06:47 am (UTC)(link)
I figured as much. We have that in my world as well, as it were.

That is definitely a possibility. I hadn't thought of that, actually.

[ He nods. ] What was the magic of your world like, if you are fine with disclosing that information?

[identity profile] youngforhisage.livejournal.com 2011-08-06 06:50 am (UTC)(link)
I'm taking a break now, so I don't mind describing it. It's always a little hard to know where to begin, though.

I suppose... the main thing is, it allows people to do many things that are normally impossible. However, in order to be able to utilize it, certain rules and formula must be followed. That, and one must have the aptitude for magic in the first place.

video.

[identity profile] youngforhisage.livejournal.com 2011-08-06 07:44 am (UTC)(link)
Well... It allowed us to do a lot of things that wouldn't normally be possible, that's for sure. But after seeing what the technology here does, we may not have needed it after all.
miniworth: (The man we respect the most.)

video.

[personal profile] miniworth 2011-08-06 07:44 am (UTC)(link)
Ah.. is there not as much technology in your world?

video.

[identity profile] youngforhisage.livejournal.com 2011-08-06 07:49 am (UTC)(link)
Not nearly as much as this one, no.

It's hard to say... They both have their ups and downs, really.
